CV & biogRAPHY

Cutting his teeth working with some of the best musicians in the world on seven Van Morrison albums at his residential studio near Bath was a great start to any recording career. Other clients at this studio included Paul Weller, The Stereophonics and Annie Lennox.

In 1997 a move to Metropolis saw experience with bands such as U2, Jamiroquai, Feeder, Garbage, The Clash and The Rolling Stones. Solo Artists included Bjork, Celine Dion, DJ Shadow, The Corrs, Goldie, Joe Cocker, Elton John, Richard Ashcroft and Jeff Beck.

Now working freelance as an independent Producer and Mixer, Matt also does a lot of engineering at the Miloco studios.

In addition to the work outlined above, Matt has a few more strings to his bow…

Orchestral and Classical

Matt is very at home in the most demanding of sessions, from recording and producing indie bands to large scale recording sessions with the biggest bands to string and orchestral sessions and classical artists. He has engineered string and orchestral sessions for artists including Magnetic Man, Super Furry Animals, Foals, Groove Armada, Moloko, Duran Duran, Mark Ronson and Sugababes to name but a few. He has a great deal of experience recording and mixing sections ranging from 4 – 40 players.

Live Concert Mixing for DVD, TV Web & New Media

In the run up to 2005, Matt worked on a number of DVD projects. This culminated in securing the DVD production and mix for the Live 8 concerts – a huge undertaking that took four months all told and is currently 10x Platinum and one of the biggest selling music DVDs of all time. Matt produced all of the concert mixes and took on the mixing of Hyde Park and Edinburgh concerts himself.

Film and Surround

Matt has considerable experience in recording and mixing many film scores and has been involved in music projects for TV and advertising with campaigns including The UEFA Cup, British Airways and Nike.

Tech Stuff

Matt’s time spent keeping Metropolis at the leading edge of technology lead to him working on a great many online and new media projects, such as The Good, The Bad, The Queen’s myspace broadcast of their Wilton Hall show. At the other end of the technological scale Matt was part of the first direct to vinyl cut for around 20 years – Mixing Duke special Live to a cutting lathe.
